HK Multidisciplinary & Holistic Centre for Cleft Lip & Palate
One baby in 800 to 1000 live births in Hong Kong suffers from cleft lip or palate or a combination. Apart from repair of lip (usually at 3 months of age) and palate (usually at 9 months of age), long term problems such as speech, hearing (from glue ear), nasal congestion (from deformed nose), dental and facial bone development require treatment in order to restore normal appearance and regain confidence.

The aim of setting up a “Hong Kong Multidisciplinary & Holistic Centre for Cleft Lip and Palate (HKMHCCLP)” is to address the need of these patients until they have restored all functions from the cleft lip and palate defects.

Loving Smiles Dental Service for Intellectual Disability
Loving Smiles Service is a pilot dental service for the persons with intellectual disability, commissioned by the Food & Health Bureau (FHB), managed by the Hong Kong Dental Association and the Hong Kong Special Care Dentistry Association, and operated by the Evangel Hospital. Its service targets are the persons with intellectual disability (mild/moderate/severe) aged 18 or above, who are receiving
a) Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) or
b) Disability Allowance from the Social Welfare Department or
c) medical fees waiver issued by the Hospital Authority.

They need to be referred by their rehabilitation service units of the welfare NGOs (such as residential hostels and day activity centres for the intellectually disabled), to the participating dental clinic for initial check-up. According to their individual conditions, they would then be arranged to receive other necessary dental services, through behavioral management, under intravenous (IV) sedation or general anesthesia (GA) in a hospital setting with adequate medical support. When treatment is completed, oral health education and oral hygiene instruction would be given to the caregivers to help maintain the oral health of the patient. At the moment, there is only the Evangel Hospital and its dental centre providing the Loving Smiles Service.

The coverage of the FHB sponsorship includes a dental check-up and all the basic dental treatment needed. Should the person with ID require IV sedation or GA service for dental treatment, this would be included in the sponsorship. Additionally, if the patient requires escort service for treatment visits, the escort fees could be reimbursed at a highest hourly rate of HK$70. Those who are wheel chair bound will also have the hired transport service reimbursed for their treatment visits.

Eligible patients and their carers can apply for the sponsorship through their respective rehabilitation service units. Please refer to the application procedures and download the application form for use. Some common Q&A are set for your reference. For enquiries, please call the hotline at 54063928 or email lovingsmileservice@gmail.com.

Right Care, Right Time Project
Right Care, Right Time is a 3-year time limited project tapping the collaboration between Precious Blood Children’s Village, Evangel Children's Home and Sisters of the Good Shepherd, aiming to address the health issue of children and adolescent. It is a collaborative effort comprised of professionals from a wide variety of medical and helping profession from Evangel Hospital. Our intent is to provide right care at the right time to 350 socially and economically deprived children and adolescents in 7 residential units in the 3 agencies per year.

We adopt the model of Multidisciplinary Care Assessment Team (MCAT) with the aim of delivering assessment and short-term interventions concerning the physical and psychological needs of children and adolescents. The team solely comprises family doctor, psychiatrist, psychologist, paramedical staff and social workers. Our target group is the residents aged 3 – 21 coming from three agencies including Evangel Children's Home, Precious Blood Children’s Village and Sisters of the Good Shepherd.

The team fulfills a variety of functions—some work together on children and adolescents’ care plans, while others may specifically address mental health treatment plans, coordinate entry or reentry of medical, rehabilitation services or community services. Overall, our primary purpose is to help team members conducting an all-rounded assessment and collectively develop treatment, facilitate and coordinate referrals, and solve problems that may arise in the plan to effectively meet the complex needs of the children and adolescents.

MCAT provides care plans and on time treatment for children and adolescents in residential homes better address their physical and mental health needs, thereby increasing their stability and safety and reducing incidents involving the use of emergency services. Besides, increased information sharing between professionals allows services to be integrated more effectively, resulting in greater success to treatment for children and adolescents as well as their families. Simultaneously, the time they stay in the residential and medical services would be shortened accordingly. As for the project evaluation, the project logic model is adopted to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the project. ,

Service Units include:
• Precious Blood Children’s Village
• Evangel Children's Home
• Sisters of the Good Shepherd
